Azerbaijan, Iran mull issues of border security

Azerbaijan and Iran have discussed issues of ensuring border security at a meeting of the delegations led by chief of the Azerbaijan State Border Service (SBB) Elchin Guliyev and Iran’s Border Guard Commander Qasem Rezaee. The meeting was held in the Iranian city of Bilasuvar.

The sides focused on issues of border security, combating international terrorism, organization of reliable border control, challenges facing the border guards in the fight against cross-border crimes. They also stressed the necessity of further developing mutual coordination and cooperation in the mentioned field.

The sides emphasized the significance of switching to the 24-hour operation at Astara and Bilasuvar state border check points, carrying out activities at the Astara railway line, as well as taking necessary measures by both countries to build a new road bridge and pedestrian crossing over the Astara River.

During the meeting, the sides agreed on holding regular meetings at Azerbaijani-Iranian border and border check points in order to carry out exchange of data in the field of border protection, as well as promote cooperation and organization of joint events.
