Azerbaijani chess players to compete at King Salman World Cup in St. Petersburg

Azerbaijani top chess players including GMs Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Rauf Mammadov will test their strength at the King Salman FIDE World Rapid Championship to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from December 26-28.

It is 15 rounds Swiss tournament with a prize fund of USD 1,150,000. Time control is 15+10.

Current world champion Magnus Carlsen is also expected to fight for the title at the tournament which will bring together more than 300 chess players.

In the women`s events, Azerbaijan will be represented by Zeynab and Turkan Mammadyarova sisters, as well as young and promising chess player Gunay Mammadzadeh.
