The Reserves Management Center of the State Tourism Agency has submitted to the World Heritage Committee the relevant documents in order to get the Khynalyg reserve included in the Initial List for its candidacy to the World Heritage List.
In the document submitted to the organization by the mediation of National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO and the Permanent Delegation of the Azerbaijan Republic to UNESCO, the Khynalyg reserve was evaluated on the basis of the global criteria put forward by the World Heritage Committee, and the substantiations and the information proving the necessity of inclusion of the reserve in the World Heritage List were reflected.
The Reserves Management Center also plans to start the nomination process for the reserve’s candidacy to the World Heritage List after one year.
We would like to note for information that according to the rules determined by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee, for reviewing candidacy to the World Heritage List of any historical and cultural monument, it is required that such monument is included in the Initial List at list one year prior to the reviewing. The Initial List is the list of the monuments that each member country wishes to review in order to put forward its candidacy to the World Heritage List. This list is published on the official internet page of UNESCO and in relevant working documents by the World Heritage Center.
According to the rule, the World Heritage Committee cannot review candidacy to the World Heritage List of a monument whose name hasn’t been previously included in the member state’s Initial List.
